This workshop would have not been possible without the work of the UBC Equity and Inclusion department and their Positive Space Workshop. I attended this in August, 2018 and came out so inspired that I pitched a version of this workshop to the Empowerment Committee at PNI Media.

Since I identify as a cisgender & heterosexual woman, I understood I couldn’t do this just by myself, so I co-created and facilitated this workshop with a co-worker who self identifies as a member of the LGBTQ2+ community. This allowed us to have both the perspectives from a member and an ally.

The workshop is open to everyone in the company. Through activities and conversation, it covers the following topics.

  • LGBTQ2+ experiences at work.
  • Key concepts and language.
  • Pronouns.
  • Practical scenarios and strategies to be a more inclusive and welcoming co-worker.
  • Resources to continue to learn and advocate
